Homebirth

home birthAs a midwife of Home Sweet Homebirth, the first Westchester based homebirth midwifery practice in over two decades, I am thrilled to be not only part of an awesome team of two amazing like-minded homebirth midwives and our two wonderful homebirth assistants, I am also excited to be part of the holistic center for women at Full Circle Family Care. I have spent many years working in various areas of women’s and newborn’s health, and my experience includes both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. While I continue to expand in my academic, clinical and intuitive knowledge and wisdom, I am also growing in the understanding, appreciation and awe of the sanctity of life and its many facets, transitions and phases. The homebirth practice began in 1997 and it continues to grow and thrive. Most women are candidates for homebirth midwifery care; over 92% of pregnant women in our practice will have a home birth, and we maintain a cesarean section rate of less than 5%.

I believe childbirth is a normal and natural bodily function, while profoundly spiritual, and is also truly inspiring and an empowering rite of passage for women and their families; and that they are best served by caregivers who promote and encourage a loving, respectful, supportive, family centered environment, and maintain trust and calm confidence in the normalcy of the process, which occurs for the vast majority of women and babies, until proven otherwise. Numerous studies around the world have documented the safety of planned homebirth by trained professional midwives, with outcomes for mom and baby at least as good, if not better than those occurring in a hospital. A pregnancy and birth experience that is personalized, healthy, safe, deeply positive and transformative are my top priorities as a homebirth midwife.
