Audrey's Biography
Audrey is a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM).
She graduated from Wagner College in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in Nursing. After being an ER nurse for two years, she reveled in the opportunity to take care of women and babies, and obtained a Masters in Midwifery from Georgetown University. Before Full Circle, she worked in an urban hospital in the Bronx taking care of a diverse group of women. As part of the Full Circle team, she applies her abilities to engaging women in holistic, respectful care.
Areas of Interest I am interested in all aspects of women’s health from the first gyn exam through the childbearing years, breastfeeding, and menopause. I find it a true joy and privilege to be a part of women’s lives and health care. I am particularly interested in holistic care, incorporating yoga, meditation, and essential oils into care. In my free time, I enjoy yoga, travelling, watching documentaries, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with my partner Jeff.
My Path To Midwifery
My journey to midwifery began when I was 15 and I saw a documentary How We Are Made that detailed conception to birth inside the womb. I remember being so moved and curious about this intricate and beautiful process. I always had a fascination with the human body and how it worked, and this sparked my initial interest in nursing. I found a love of obstetrics in my second year of nursing school gravitating towards supporting women and babies.
Once I became an ER nurse I met a lovely pregnant woman who told me all about her plan to birth with a midwife. I got my hands on every book I could find and became enamored with Ina May Gaskin, Peggy Simpkin, and Henci Goer. I watched every birth video I could, focusing on the normalcy and instinct that women possess in birth. I shadowed a midwife and watched her wisdom and knowledge, the way she interacted with patients, and saw how deeply her patients trusted her. I knew this was my calling in life and I began Midwifery school a month later.
Every birth I attended was unique, special, and beautiful. I savored being a part of a woman’s labor support, catching babies, and truly being with women. I spent 3 years supporting women in an urban hospital, and I have taken something with me from every birth. I am drawn to the personalized and professional care midwifery provides. I encourage women to see if midwifery care is a good fit for them, and to explore how the services provided at Full Circle can contribute to their well being – of mind, body, and spirit.
My Hope For Clients
My hope for clients is that they feel supported, cared for, and that this empowers them to find their voice. I hope that they feel held in a safe space and that their choices are respected and honored. I hope that they emerge from these unique experiences in the life cycle a stronger more resilient and powerful version of themselves, and that they feel like they can do anything.
